Adventures of Anansi and Sewa: The Missing Black Panther

This is Anansi Spider and his sister Anansewa Spider. Anansewa is sometimes called Sewa. They live with their parents, Mummy Spider and Daddy Spider.

One rainy day in the middle of April. Anansi and Sewa, were trying to think of something to do. They wanted to play outside but it was raining.
They looked out the window as the lightning lit up the sky. The thunder made a loud sound, boom! The sound made them jump really high!
“Why won’t it stop raining? It’s Saturday, we’re supposed to be outside playing!” Anansi said.

Anansi and Sewa went from room to room thinking of what they could do.
“I’m bored,” Sewa said. “There’s nothing to do!”

Daddy looked up from his newspaper, “No, can’t you see it’s raining? Play some board games, or play hide and seek! You can even paint a picture of nature!”
“None of that sounds like fun,” Sewa said.
“We want something exciting to do!” Anansi agreed.
“Don’t worry kids, I’m sure the rain will let up soon. I’ll go and make us something nice for lunch; it’s already noon.”

Anansi and Sewa went to the window and looked outside again. This time it looked as if the rain had stopped. The clouds were starting to clear from the sky.
Anansi ran outside but Sewa stayed and watched him from the window, “Come outside Sewa. The rain has finally stopped!” Anansi called out to Sewa.

Just as the words left Anansi’s mouth, rain poured out of the sky and drenched him all over. Sewa who was still looking out through the window laughed at her brother. “I’m glad I stayed inside. This weather really is a bummer!”
“Come outside Sewa! It’s just a drizzle!”
“A drizzle?” Sewa asked. “What’s that? Is that what makes you wiggle?”
“No! A drizzle is just a bit of rain, enough so we can have fun playing out here all day!”

Sewa ran outside and joined Anansi. They splashed in the puddles and chased one another.

Just then, they heard Mummy Spider pull into the driveway. “What are you two doing out here? It’s raining a lot!”

No, it’s not. It’s just a drizzle!” Anansi and Sewa pulled Mummy Spider into a puddle!

“Come on you two, let’s go inside!” Mummy Spider chased after them. Suddenly, a big gust of wind took Mummy Spider’s umbrella and it flew into the sky.
They all chased the umbrella around the yard. Daddy Spider saw them through the kitchen window. He took off his apron, ran outside and splashed toward them.
Mummy Spider ran faster than the children and she caught the umbrella before it flew away. Anansi and Sewa caught up with Mummy Spider. They burst into laughter because she looked funny in her work clothes, all wet like theirs.
Mummy Spider took one look at her clothes and started laughing too.

“What are you all doing? It looks like fun.” Daddy Spider said when he caught up with them.
“Let’s sing a song about the rain,” he said. “It’s a song my family and I used to sing when I was a boy.

“Let’s sing a song about the rain,” he said. “It’s a song my family and I used to sing when I was a boy.
“Rain, rain go away
come again another day
little children want to play.”
Anansi, Sewa and Mummy Spider sang along. They splashed and sang their new favorite song!
They all laughed and continued to play outside in the rain. This ended up being the best rainy day ever.
